Shoes, Stretching and A Couple of Sprints

Photo_210Last Thursday I picked up a long overdue pair of running shoes during the running seminar I attended at Runner's Soul in LaGrange.  My new shoes, Nike if you can believe that, are super light weight and comfy.  According to the experts, it is very important to get properly fitted for running shoes so that you don't hinder form or create bad habits.  Also, the proper shoes could prevent injury, but if you do get injured make sure to cure the cause not the symptom.  Runner's Soul has special technology to view your foot and its make-up.

Anyhow, my shoes feel good and I have been cranking on the runs.  Last week for TRI training I dumped the weight training (oops) and did 4 cardios, one swim and 3 run/jogs.  So really, I did not follow my plan to a T last week. After hearing Lisa, running coach, I got fired up to test out my new running skills, and of course I am trying to lose some lbs, which running is the fastest way to drop the weight.  Truly, the best way to get lean is to be mindful of nutrition and food intake.  I pounded the water last week, and my jog/runs are definitely getting better.  Lisa noted that you should track distance, how you feel when done, and type of run you did.  This record keeping will allow you to meet goals, and improve fitness.  At the seminar we were told to warm-up to a run with a 5-10 minute walk and stretch.  DO you know that my pre-run stretching has me floating on cloud 9?!  The stretch really loosens you up and allows you to pick it up again the next day.  I have been concentrating on the stretch with particular emphasis on the roller, which by golly hurts while you are rolling, but everything feels losse and open when you are done.  Big thumbs up for the roller or the stick!

This week I have done one run so far, and my intention is to get in the weight session and swim.   I hope to bike too, and layoff the run for a while.  Speaking of that, last week I was happy to get a few sprints in that burned the calories a lot faster!!!  Gotta love that.

lESSON: Continue to educate yourself on all aspects of fitness, but do it via the experts, especially those athletes who have been successsful in what you are trying to do.  The only way to go is UP!  Go there.  :)))

Keep you posted on TRI training.  My schedule shows me intensifying the workouts next week with intervals and faster transitions.  I wish me luck, and you too.

Peace and KEFI,

The Roadrunner
