The athlete in me is flourishing! It's day 75 of TRI training, and as I continue to cross train I firmly believe more and more in that form of working out. Last week I began incorporating bricks and longer distance swims, which has my body switching gears into performance mode. A combination of eating for energy/fueling my body with nutritious food combined with mindful workouts has me on top of the world. Truly, I think my metabolism will start working better now that I am eating 3 meals a day with 2 snacks. It's as though my body recognizes that consistency allowing me to feel great.
Thursday I had the best swim of the year, completing 1,000 yards in 40 minutes. I swam at a good clip and concentrated on keeping my body level in the water. I did swim breathing to one side only because I need to get the proper instruction on where my arm goes when I breathe to the left. My left arm is flopping, and I don't know what to do with it. Otherwise, swim was great and I've been told that in order to shave time off my events I need to increase the distance of each event when practicing so that on race day I'll be ready for the actual distance. I did a brick this morning, and today when I hopped off the bike to run, my body did not feel as heavy as last week. Every time I do a brick I will feel lighter and lighter. Not sure when I will incoporate swim, bike and run into the same workout, but for today I biked for 30 picking up the pace for 5 minutes, and then jumped off the bike and ran for 10 minutes. I'm scheduled for a 3 mile outdoor run tomorrow.
LESSON: When training for a race or event, practice longer than the actual so you can perform with more ease on event day. For example, in the Sprint TRI that I am doing in August the swim distance is a half mile, I should be doing a mile during my practices.
That's all for now, but I can't wait to experience these next few weeks of training. Good things around the corner as I have committed to doing my best!
May the kefi be with you!
