I signed up to run the Chicago Rock and Roll half marathon for me, but mostly I signed up for my son's little friend Thefonais and his family! How do we discuss the subject of endurance without discussing the bravery and strength of a cancer patient? Impossible -because the strength of a cancer patient is one who possesses internal faith, staying power, persistence, fortitude and patience. My discomfort during training for the half marathon does not compare one iota to the might of this young boy. I must apologize because I have been complaining a little bit due to running so much in the heat, and I feel embarrassed about that because Theo has to endure extremely painful procedures of chemo to kill the bad cancer cells. Today, Theo experienced a high fever and extreme pain with side effects of meds and his mother Eleni told me that Theofanis did not complain and rarely does as to shield his family. WOW, what a smart and unbelievably brave young man. Theofanis, I am so proud of you your family. You inspire me to keep going.
Please allow me to take a moment to say how much I think of Theofanis and his family for enduring the fight, but then again wouldn't you do the same for your child or loved one? YES- when you love someone you will fight hard to bring relief to that person you cherish. How much do I love you- enough to endure the entire process, that's how much!
The picture above is an image of a father and son who shaved their heads for Theo and his battle to fight cancer. A father and son who love Theofanis and respect what he is going through with his chemo treatments at the tender age of 6. How much do I love you my child-enough to endure the fight with YOU!
Thank you to each and every one of you who has donated to Theo's race to cure, and I hope that you will stay healthy and happy for an eternity!
with love and gratitude,
The Roadrunner
